Let That One Go

Oh … No … Please don’t go
Now that you have “come” and “known”

You know oh
I’m in love
You know oh
I’m - in - love
You know
Yo oh oh oh oh oh oh oh

Growth is for the sober and dumb
To the top rise the cream and the scum

You know oh
I’m in love
You know oh
I’m - in - love
You know
Yo oh oh oh oh oh oh oh

You know
Yo oh oh oh oh oh oh oh

Bosco’s Pigeons

He pushes hard a hot teaspoon on the boy's hand
D’you wanna see your sons come home in body bags?
Pinches up the skin on his old
And you know it don’t go back so fast nowadays
Yo ho, yo, yo ho, yo ho,
Bosco’s pigeons fly

??? ???
??? ???
The arrogant uncertainty of youth is
??? ???

Yo ho, yo, yo ho, yo ho,
Bosco’s pigeons fly

Bridge

??? for the old boys
??? ???
I’d be Bosco’s pigeon if I had to
??? growth … depression … war

Yo ho, yo, yo ho, yo ho,
Bosco’s pigeons fly
Yo ho, yo, yo ho, yo ho,
Bosco’s pigeons fly

I Am The Only People

Background

  • This song is about the loss of innocence without the loss of ignorance ... or self-pity
  • It's not really about burning or burned children but "the burned child loves the fire" is the line people seem to notice
    • It's more of an observation about having a fascination for, and returning to, things that are bad for us ...
    • ... and then moaning about how it hurts!
  • The line about an affected lowering of a gaze came about after seeing an interview with Lady Diana Spencer who was just embarking upon her, soon to be fatal, courtship of the press ... and whatever else it was she was courting at the time.
    • She was seen as a fresh, new, and untainted but she appeared, perhaps unfairly, perhaps not, to be less innocent than she wanted to appear and playing on her supposed innocence and youth
    • Having seen this behaviour in her, it seemed to crop up elsewhere
    • The song isn't about her though
      • It's about how the loss of innocence and the resulting pain are so frequently, craved, grieved, and moaned about

Lyrics

I’ve gotta tell you
It hurts me so
She begs me show her
What I’d have her not know
Her innocence it seems so mannered now these days
There’s something affected about the way she lowers her gaze

I am the only people
I am the only people
I am the only one who ever felt never loved
I am the only people

She acts from fear now and not desire
The burned child loves the fire
They say it purifies what fire it don’t destroy
But you know it hardens too
It’ll be so hard tonight

I am the only people
I am the only people
I am the only one who ever felt this this much done
I am the only people

(Sax solo)

I am the only people
I am the only people
I am the only one who ever felt this much numb
I am the only people

You Know What’s Good For You

Tell me don’t worry
Tell me don’t fuss
Tell me there’s more chance
I’ll walk under a bus
Well your sort see castrating rapists
As fitting the crime
Regarding regret as a luxury
For those with the time

Chorus
Y’know oh oh oh
Y’know oh oh oh
Y’know oh oh oh oh

Tell him he’s lucky
He’s got a job
His wife and his guvnor
Both think they’re his boss
Tell him he needs smoking beagles
And bromide in tea
The stone and the scissors and paper
Can never agree

Lead in the petrol
Gas in the beer
Wide wheels and herpes
Just caught on ‘round here
His soul is worth more than his wages
He said so he’s sacked
They more than made up for in ethics
What in morals they lacked
