Background

  • Matt doesn't much care for dancing
  • Lots of social occasions seem to require that you dance to not stand out or appear "off"
  • Lots of people seem to assume that when you say you don't want to dance, you do really - you just need to be asked again and again and again
  • There are girls that suggest that if you cared about them, you'd dance with them and don't accept that you couldn't care about them more but couldn't want to dance less
    • not all girls of course
      • there are girls who don't like dancing too
        • this song isn't about them
  • Dancing is a bit of a metaphor for compliant behaviour, at times
